Folks in the Boothbay region already know what a community asset their local cinema is. Harbor Theater members also know what a great deal their discounted $8 tickets are. Starting July 1, their discount just gets better. The theater board made the decision this spring to raise the adult ticket price for non-members from $10 (one of the lowest rates in the state) to $12, and non-member child (under 18) ticket to $10. Member tickets will remain $8 for adults and $6 for children. 

Part of the impetus for the increase comes from the premium rate movie studios often charge for “blockbuster” films. Even when films don’t reach blockbuster status, if they are released in the prime summer months, they are expected to bring in bigger profits. Thus, the cost to independent theaters screening those movies is sometimes higher. While Harbor Theater is dedicated to keeping prices in a range the community can support, the theater also must pay its operating costs. The new $12 ticket price is still in line with what many cinemas around the country charge. The great news is there is a way to get discounted tickets for every show – become a member!

If you would like to explore becoming a Harbor Theater member, the annual membership fee for an individual is $40 and $75 for a family. Discounted ticket prices are not the only benefit! Harbor Theater offers two Members Free events each year. In 2024, those two events are presentations of the Maine-made film “Hangdog” with a Meet the Filmmakers reception on June 30 and the documentary “Jamie Wyeth and the Unflinching Eye” on Sept.  8. In addition to discounted ticket prices for all films and free member films, members can also use their discount at other Art House Convergence theaters nationwide, including (in Maine) Rockland’s Strand Theater, Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater, and Waterville’s Maine Film Center.
