The double s’s in Wiscasset could have stood for Set for Success earlier this month. Another year of the event that helps students be supplied for their new school year is in the books. Kudos to the volunteers and whole community for sticking with this positive, helpful effort for the next generation.

That other s in Wiscasset, the one leading the way, could have stood for Simmons last week. That’s Dennis Simmons, town manager, whose efforts to find money for costly projects – and keep the tax base intact or better – have drawn selectmen’s praise many times. And now Simmons has a significant honor from his town, city and county management peers in Maine, their 2024 Leadership Award.

Kudos to the town officials who took part in nominating Simmons; kudos to Maine Town, City & County Management Association for recognizing him; and kudos to Simmons for earning it in all the ways described last week and in the nomination. 

Week’s positive parting thought: According to the website days.to, as of Thursday, Aug. 22, summer has 30 days left. This is the last time this season I will mention this as a positive thought, because any fewer days and it will not sound like it!
