Casting call for staged reading of ‘War of the Worlds’ ...
We are starting small and dreaming big. Foot on the Ground Productions (an amateur theatrical production company based in Lincoln County) will present a live, scripted performance of "War of the Worlds" (as adapted from the 1890s serial drama by H.G. Wells), at Fernald's Country Store, 50 Main St., Damariscotta Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m and Sunday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m., to complement the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest.
The mission of the project is to promote media literacy education in the state of Maine. Ella Ackerman of Bremen directs.
We have assembled a core cast, but Foot on the Ground Productions is optimistically seeking the following additions to our company, to add to the Halloween fun:
1-3 actors ages 20-50 (please note: men are needed, but a silent role for a woman in her 20s or 30s could be included); a live radio SFX director and coordinator; stage manager; lighting and sound assistants and a costumier; “Newsies” (ages 10-20) to march in the Pumpkinfest Parade, ideally carrying a banner and distributing a "newspaper" type flyer/program with information about this (hopefully annual) production, the participants, and important mission of this company; an energetic, artistic person(s) to coordinate the Newsies, making the banner and the "newspaper" type flyer/program.
Also needed are generous sponsors and contributors willing to support the project with volunteer time and/or gifts and who are aligned with the overall mission of the project.
All are welcome, including educators, journalists, vintage radio enthusiasts, filmmakers, technicians and young people interested in making a 15-minute BTS documentary film about the evolving project.
This year, we plan two performances of “War of the Worlds” presented as a live radio play. Rehearsals are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Fernald’s Country Store from 7 until 9 p.m. Schedules can be worked around to a certain extent, but it is important for everyone to be present for rehearsals the week before the show.
If you are interested auditioning or in helping this project fly in any way, please stop by Fernald's Country Store on Friday, Sept. 13 or Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
