This year, the Lincoln Arts Festival’s annual boatyard art show and sale, to be held Friday, Aug. 23 through Sunday, Aug. 25, has a new identity and focus. Located as in past years at the Boothbay Region Boatyard on Southport, the Arts & Yachts event will highlight both the work of visual artists and the skilled production of the boatyard.

30 Midcoast artists will show paintings and sculpture, jewelry and furniture, fiber arts and glass, wood, ceramics, photographs and prints. The exciting thing for visitors about this show is that it is designed for interaction and participation as well as observation and shopping. Villard Studios will host free hands-on printmaking tutorials throughout the weekend featuring a traditional American woodblock printing process they use and teach in their studio. The activities are both child and adult-friendly.

Other artists will demonstrate jewelry-making, clay work and fiber arts under three featured tents within the show. Artists including jewelry-maker Rhoda Weyr, weaver Ursula Smith, embroiderer Katie Eves, watercolorist Julie Babb, and ceramicist Judith Day will demonstrate their working processes throughout the weekend.

See work by jeweler Christine Peters Hamilton, furniture by Eben Blaney, ceramics by Elise Andersen, silk scarves and pillows by Susan Atwater, and fiber arts by Leslie Volpe. Jessica Sirois will show unique silk jewelry as well as metal wall assemblages and mobiles and boat maker Dana McLean will display his wooden boats.

Don't miss the work of favorite Boothbay Harbor area painters John and Lynne Seitzer, Tom Whittle, Hilary Bartlett, Cheryl Blaydon, John Butke, and Mark Reilly; fiber arts by Jill Butke and Barbara Lally, Ame Mundy's turned wood, Mike Lewis's painted wood sculptures, Margaret Yarranton's painted wood objects, Charlie Asbury's stone sculpture, Tom Knobloch's and Sue Page's photographs, and Dick Macdonald's stained glass.

In addition to the arts activities, visitors will be able to get an inside peek at the beautiful 13-foot tender designed by Bruce King, designer of the famed Liberty yacht. The boat, built at Boothbay Region Boatyard for rowing, with spars for sailing, as well as a Fairy Marine seven-horsepower diesel motor, will be on display with its masts throughout the weekend.

The public is invited to an artists' reception on August 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. as Arts & Yachts kicks off. The show continues on Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
