Plummer Gallery and Gardens hosts Herb Society of America
The Plummer Gallery and Gardens conducted guided tours of their perennial gardens and art gallery Thursday, Aug. 15, to a large group from the Herb Society of America, based in Pennsylvania.
Although the Asian lillies had peaked, the gardens still sparkled in the coastal sunlight up and down the terraced slopes. The lily pond and curved walls always add interest, as they blend into the landscape. Walkways and stone stairs provide intimate access to a variety of gardens, each with its own mood. The gardens are informal and interact with the field stone walls that meander throughout the craggy slopes. The bridge that provides the entrance to the gallery and home allows an exciting aerial view of the landscaping and design on both sides.
Looking through the large, vertical panels of glass in the 23-foot sun room entering the gallery, one immediately become engaged with the dramatic outside views of the gardens, projecting a feeling of being outside.
The general consensus of the group was that the landscaping revealed a personal uniqueness with a creative touch, using the existing natural environment as part of the design.
The Plummer Galley and Gardens at 154 King Phillips Trail in East Boothbay will remain open through September.
