Robin L. Farrin
Robin Lynn Farrin, 59, of Boothbay, died peacefully Saturday evening, August 24, 2013 at home with her family by her side.
She was born on October 4, 1953 in Amityville, N.Y., the daughter of the late Edgar and Norma Smith. Her family, shortly thereafter, relocated to Sanford, Maine, where she graduated from Sanford High School in 1972. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Maine at Farmington to pursue a degree in elementary education. While attending a close friend’s wedding, unbeknownst to her, she would meet the love of her life, Patrick Allen Farrin.
Robin pursued many passions in life; her number one passion was her two boys, Kelly and Kipp. Being a stay-at-home mother proved to her what she clearly enjoyed in life. Watching her two sons climb up through the Southport Yacht Club sailing program, as she once had, was one of her greatest gifts as a mother. She also loved watching her son’s local sports teams, and could be seen on the sideline with Pat, traveling around the state supporting in any way possible.
While traveling with her family in the winter months, she shared many memorable moments while visiting the Bahamas, Caribbean and the coast of Florida. Her generosity and kindness towards her sons throughout their lives was the greatest gift and is clearly noticed in them today.
During that time, Robin was a key member in the early years of the Southport Rowgatta. She became a certified aerobics dance instructor and also attended the Downeast School of Massage. There she received a degree as a massage therapist. Robin met Tony Garreton while attending Zumba classes at the Boothbay YMCA. Their friendship created an everlasting bond and love for dance. With the help of Tony, Zumba and Fiesta Fitness forever changed Robin’s life and opened a new door to many cherished friendships.
Her early childhood experiences teaching at the Southport Yacht Club would create a love for the ocean. She could always be seen sailing with her sons, exploring the Sheepscot River in her rowing shell, and overlooking daily yacht club activities while relaxing at her cottage on Davids Island.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edgar and Norma Smith; sister, Bonnie Smith; aunt and uncle, Howard W. Galvin and Jean T. Galvin.
Robin is survived by her husband of 39 years, Patrick A. Farrin; her two sons, Kelly P. Farrin and Kipp C. Farrin, and their girlfriends, Sasha M. Morin and Elizabeth A. Tilton; her brother, Captain Barry Smith; and aunt and uncle, Frank L. Clifford and Barbara Clifford; as well as her beloved Old English Sheepdogs, Emily and Captain Reef.
Robin’s family would like to thank the devoted staff of the Gibson Pavilion at Maine Medical Center and extend a heartfelt thank you to Millie Farnham and all of the wonderful nurses Robin met along her journey. Without these kinds of people, this community would truly be at a loss.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in support of the “Save St. Andrews” task force can be sent to: The Boothbay Wellness Foundation, P.O. Box 335, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
The family would like to invite all willing friends and family to a celebration of Robin’s life at the Southport Yacht Club, Sunday, September 1 from 2 to 5 p.m. and “May the wind always be at your back.”
