Boothbay Farmer's Market wraps up 2024 season
Thursday, Oct. 10 marked the final day of the 2024 Boothbay Farmer’s Market season. Amid a cool breeze, vendors and patrons enjoyed blue skies and sounds from No Spring Chickens. Well-behaved dogs and enthusiastic shoppers dotted the Common.
As usual, Hubbard Brook, Goranson and Dharma Farms stands were bustling with vegetable and fruit shoppers, Big Barn Coffee kept everyone well-caffeinated, and bread, pastries and cookies from Hootenanny and Wildwoods Bakeries were often eaten on the spot. Boothbay Craft Brewery and Six River Cider were there and Barters Island Bees offered honey tastings of six flavors including pumpkin spice. In all, 18 of the market’s 24 vendors were on hand to make sure shoppers got everything they needed and more. Yarns at Seacolors Yarnery at Meadowcroft Farm displayed gorgeous sweaters. Anna Christina of Mana Medicinals, now in its eighth year at the market, offered holistic remedies to locals and summer residents on their way home.
“This is our first year selling here. The Boothbay market has been great, especially in the summertime,” said Peter Millett of Six River Cider. “This is an excellent location,” said Brad Messier of West Maquoit Vinegar Works. “In the season I met people from all over the country.” Anna Miller of Sweet Monkey Business, purveyors of shortbread cookies and granolas, said, “Boothbay is a consistently great market for us.” Sweet Monkey Business is in its third year at the Boothbay market and offers samples of all the business’s granolas and shortbreads. Frontier Maple Sugarworks offers all things maple.
“The weather was great this season, and we (Blue Tin Farm) made it to every week this year,” said Crystal Theall. “We milk our goats year-round and breeding season is coming up. Pretty soon I’ll be making soaps for the holiday shoppers.”
Areko’s also offers goat products, fudge and hand-tossed frozen pizzas to bake at home. Broad Arrow, Kelley Brothers Farm, and Maine-ly Poultry were on hand for meat needs and Pemaquid Lobster & Seafood had its usual line of seafood lovers.
