This week at the Lincoln Theater
“Beetlejuice” - (1988; PG; 1 hour, 32 minutes) - After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose “help” quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia. Final showtimes Thursday, Oct. 17 at 2 and 7 p.m.
“Elephant & Piggie Jr.” - Y Arts presentation - An elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie are “bestus” friends, but Gerald worries that something could go wrong that would end their friendship. Piggie is not worried at all. She’s even happier and more excited than usual because they have been invited to a party hosted by the Squirrelles, three singing squirrels who love to have a good time. And so begins a day when anything is possible. Shows at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 and Friday, Oct. 18. Tickets: $10 general admission.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” - (PG-13; 1 hour, 45 minutes) - After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his brand of mayhem. Playing at 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 and Wednesday, Oct. 23; at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 and Thursday, Oct. 24.
“Grounded” - (2 hours, 44 minutes - one intermission) - Met Premiere! “Grounded” wrestles with often-overlooked issues created by 21st-century warmaking: the ethical conflicts created by the use of modern military technology and the psychological and emotional toll supposedly safe remote technology takes on our servicepersons. Canadian mezzo soprano Emily D’Angelo stars as the hot-shot fighter pilot whose unplanned pregnancy takes her out of the cockpit and lands her in Las Vegas, operating a Reaper drone halfway around the world. American tenor Ben Bliss co-stars as the Wyoming rancher Eric. Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. Tickets: $25 adult, $23 members, and $5 youth 18 and under.
Talking Art in Maine - Host Emily Sabino welcomes guest artist Maureen Egan whose reverent and heartfelt paintings act as visual talismans, expressing a healing connection with and appreciation of life lessons, cycles of life, and the awe-inspiring beauty of the natural world.
