Lindsay Arrington
Lindsay Arrington of Barters Island, Boothbay passed away peacefully in her sleep the night of Oct. 2, 2024, at her family’s home after a brief illness. She was 76 years old.
She was a resident of the area on and off her entire life. She was the granddaughter of Paul and Jean Willson, who lived on Lakeside Drive for many years. She was the daughter of USN Captain John L. Arrington II and Cherrie Willson Arrington.
At an early age, Lindsay lived in Paris, France while her father served with NATO. She became fluent in French and ultimately taught French at Moravian University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She graduated from St. Agnes School (now St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes) in Alexandria, Virgnia and was a graduate of Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland.
After Pennsylvania, Lindsay moved to North Carolina and started a new career with the N.C. Department of Corrections as a case manager. Upon her retirement, Lindsay was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the Governor, the highest honor awarded to a citizen of N.C.
In 1985 she married R. Larry Emerson of Asheboro, N.C. They remained married until his death in 2019. Together they were very active in their community and with the local Anglican Church. They also shared a passion for archeology and participated in multiple projects in N.C.
In 2022 she moved to Barters Island to live year-round in an apartment next to her brother Christopher Arrington and his wife Debra Arrington. She loved the Maine coast and boating and enjoyed her final years watching the water and sunsets from her deck.
She is survived by her brother, Christopher (Chris) Arrington, his wife Debra Arrington, her niece Stephanie Siswick of Provo, Utah and her two children Bentley and Ella; her nephew William Arrington and his wife Carley Arrington of Topsham, and their children Walker and Miller. She is also survived by numerous cousins, sharing a special connection with the Willson family who were former residents of the area.
A memorial service will be held Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Boothbay Harbor. An additional spring service is being planned at All Souls Anglican Church in Asheboro, N.C. for friends and family in that area.
