Richard L. Colten
Richard Lee Colten, 93, formerly of Teaneck and Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, died Feb. 27, 2025, at the Zimmerli Wing of St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor. Richard, known as Dick, was born March 7, 1931 in Grand Haven, Michigan to Arthur and Judith (Ginsburg) Colten.
Dick attended The Cambridge School in Weston, MA, Emerson College, and Harvard Middle Management School.
Dick worked in the broadcasting industry until he became president of Alexander Dun and Sons, a duty-free trade company he ran with his cousin, John Mayer. He enjoyed being a ham radio operator and amateur electrician in his spare time.
His community service included the Boy Scouts, Community Chest, PTA, SCORE Northeast NJ entrepreneur mentorship program and other community organizations. He was a member of the Chestnut Hill Ham Radio Club. He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and sense of civic duty.
He was pre-deceased by his sister, Mary Colten Glodt; brother-in-law, Herbert Glodt; brothers, Arthur Thomas and Jerrold Lewis Colten; brother-in-law, James Landale Dun, and sister-in-law Doreen Crawford Dun.
Dick is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Dun Colten of Boothbay Harbor, ME and daughter, Ann Colten of Oakland, CA; son, Jerrold Colten and his wife, Costanza Borroni of Milan, Italy; granddaughter, Eliza Williams of Berkeley, CA; grandsons, Sebastian Colten of Berlin, Germany and Giacomo Colten of Milan, Italy; and to the many who called him Uncle Dick.
