Through her lens
Ally Lambert sees the world a bit differently.
Her focus isn't always with the big picture; sometimes, she said, she focuses on the small things like colors and textures.
Now, the Wiscasset High School senior is getting a chance to share how she sees things with a wider audience.
In March, one of Lambert's photos will be on display during the National Youth Art Month at the Museum of Art in Portland.
For Lambert, the art show is the culmination of four years spent behind a camera.
“It's something I've done since my freshman year,” she said. “I like being able to look at something a certain way and being able to share that. I like to see how different colors and textures blend.”
She said that because art is subjective, it's always nice to hear feedback; and being only one of three students from Lincoln County selected is validation in itself.
“It always makes you feel better to hear compliments,” she said. “With this it was like 'Wow, that's a huge compliment.'”
The photo selected came from a summertime workshop in Camden when Lambert went outside with a classmate to experiment with different colors and techniques.
“The girl in the picture is a student at (The Rhode Island School of Design) and I really like the skirt she was wearing,” Lambert said. “The textures worked really well together so I took a picture of her.”
The Portland Museum of Art is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Friday, when it is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m, and Monday, when it is closed until Memorial Day through Columbus Day.
