The benefits of eating locally grown food and painting local scenes come together with “Sustainable Paintings: The Local Landscape,” an exhibition of landscape paintings by artist Anne Heywood at Savory Maine Dining and Provisions, 11 Water Street, Damariscotta, starting May 7. 

Connecting to places that recharge the body, soul and mind is so very important today,” Heywood said. “Landscape paintings inspired by the nooks and crannies of my local natural environment do exactly that for me. Rendering these pieces becomes a matter of creating paintings that are timeless, give comfort and ‘feed’ the soul.”  

The show runs until June 17, with an Artist’s Reception on Friday, May 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. Savory Maine Dining and Provisions is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for lunch and dinner and on Sunday for brunch and dinner. The restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday until the end of May when it will be open daily.

Heywood is an artist, author (“Pastels Made Easy,” Watson-Guptill Publications, NYC) and workshop instructor. The recipient of many honors and awards, most recently the International Association of Pastel Societies’ 2013 Silver Award and the 2012 Dr. Adrian Tinsley Award for Achievement in the Arts from Bridgewater State University, Mass.

Heywood is a member of River Arts (Damariscotta), a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and an artist member of the National Association of Women Artists. Her writings and paintings have been featured in international books and magazines such as Australian Artist Magazine and The Best of Sketching and Drawing. She is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Women. Heywood exhibits, paints and offers workshops in her Waldoboro studio/gallery, Artwork by A. Heywood, and maintains a working studio in East Bridgewater, Mass.
