Damariscotta voters head to polls June 10
Although no candidates took out papers to run for selectmen, Damariscotta voters will still have plenty of articles on which to vote during the annual town meeting.
The voting portion of Damariscotta's town meeting will be Tuesday, June 10 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town office on School Street. The open town meeting will be Wednesday, June 11 at the Lincoln Theater.
Voters will be tasked with voting on the town's budget and writing in two new selectmen, among other articles.
For the total general government budget, which includes money for administration, assessing and waste management, among other items, the board of selectmen recommend a $675,000 budget, while the budget committee recommends a $677,000 budget.
For public safety, both the selectmen and budget committee recommend a $745,000 budget with the police department ($488,000 proposed) making up the bulk of the budget. The fire department has also requested $85,000.
The proposed public works department budget for the upcoming year is $374,000 with the highway department ($238,000) comprising the bulk of the budget. The inter local agreement between Damariscotta and Newcastle accounts for $106,000 of the budget.
The county tax assessment for the town stands at $404,000.
The total proposed municipal budget is $2.646 million for 2014-15. It was $2.645 million in 2013-14.
