‘Speaking of Color’ opens June 20 in Damariscotta
“Speaking of Color” the second show of the 2014 season at the Stable Gallery on 26 Water Street in Damariscotta, will open on Friday, June 20, with a gala reception from 5-7 p.m. The Damariscotta-Newcastle Art Walk will also take place at that time. The public is invited to both events and will have the pleasure of viewing a new and exciting exhibit at The Stable which will feature nine artists in the charming central room of the Gallery. Thirty other artists will be exhibited in the stalls situated around the main gallery. “Speaking of Color” will be on exhibit until July 18.
The colorful variety of Caroline Davis’ several media is always of interest to guests returning to the gallery, as is the brilliance and energy of Pam Hansen’s striking objects from everyday life. Julia Einstein is one of the Gallery’s new artists. Her focus is on transparency, reflection and light in her inside and outside paintings.
The handsome woven rugs of Bill Bellows will also be featured. A distinguished award winning weaver, Bellows creates wool and linen rugs in geometric blocks of contrasting color. Textiles in a completely different form are those intricate and colorful dyed scarves and wall pieces of Fiona Washburn. Jessica Sirois creates with textiles in a completely different form when they are included in her jewelry pieces. Sirois, also a sculptor, reuses metal, giving it a whole new purpose and form.
Cabinetmaker Charles Durfee pays special attention to the color, grain and form of the wood he uses in his finely crafted furniture, while color and form show up as striking aspects of Adero Willard’s ceramic pieces. Joy Scott’s fused glass is dramatic in it’s color and design.
Located in the handsome stable connected to the Victorian house once belonging to clipper ship builder Eldridge Norris, the Stable Gallery is a fitting place for an array of talent from over thirty artists. Close to downtown Damariscotta at 26 Water Street, the gallery is open from mid-May until mid-October with daily hours from 10 until 5. Three more Opening Receptions will take place during the summer. “Cool In The Shade” will open Friday, July 18. “Check The Box” begins with a reception on August 15, and the final Opening of the 2014 season, “hARvesT 13” will be on Friday, September 19.
