Boston Camerata concert benefits Head Tide Church
The world-renowned Boston Camerata will perform at the historic Head Tide Church of Alna on Saturday, August 2 at 2 p.m. This concert is the group's only Maine/Northern New England performance in 2014.
Founded in 1954, The Boston Camerata ranks among the world's oldest and preeminent early music ensembles. The concert will feature Early American music in keeping with the 1838 historic building that is praised for its remarkable acoustics.
If you are unfamiliar with the ensemble, its mission statement says it all: “The Boston Camerata preserves and reawakens human memory as expressed through the art of music. It accomplishes this mission through live, historically informed, professional performances of European music of the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque areas and early American music; through study and research into musical sources of the past; through sound recordings and media projects; and through community outreach and musical education.”
“This is really quite a coups for us,” said Suki Flanagan of the Head Tide Church.
The Head Tide Church is located on Head Tide Church Road in Alna.
Proceeds will benefit the ongoing preservation of the Historic Head Tide Church. Ticket price is $25. A sell-out performance is expected.
