Moratorium comes up Sept. 17
If everything goes to plan, there will be a public meeting, an adult-entertainment moratorium and an ordinance by the time Damariscotta's 2015 town meeting rolls around.
The Damariscotta Board of Selectmen approved a special public meeting for Sept. 17 to approve an adult-entertainment moratorium during a Sept. 3 meeting.
If the moratorium is given the OK next week, it will give the board time to draft an ordinance regarding adult-themed entertainment in town, Town Manager Matt Lutkus said.
Should the moratorium be put in place, no adult-themed entertainment can set up businesses within the town for six months; the board of selectmen can extend the moratorium another six months past that, but after a year the moratorium ends.
The plan revealed at the Sept. 3 meeting was to enact a moratorium while an ordinance was crafted, then present that ordinance to voters at the 2015 town meeting.
Other business
During that Sept. 17 special town meeting, the moratorium won't be the only article on the warrant.
The issue of the adult education budget will also be brought before voters. There was an error in the budgeting process before the current budget was passed, and the selectmen ask that $8,106 be approved for adult education.
The third item on the warrant is for proposed changes to the existing shoreland zoning ordinance, where non-conforming structure expansion is concerned.
