Shakespeare's ‘Two Gentlemen of Verona’ on screen at Lincoln Theater
The Lincoln Theater is proud to bring Shakespeare's exuberant romantic comedy, “Two Gentlemen of Verona,” to the Lincoln Theater screen on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. There will also be a re-broadcast later in October.
Simon Godwin makes his Royal Shakespeare Theater debut to direct. Godwin is associate director of the Royal Court, and he most recently directed “Strange Interlude” at the National Theatre.
This is the first time in 45 years that “The Two Gentleman of Verona” has been performed in a full production on the Royal Shakespeare Theatre (RST) stage. Its press performance in July this year received critical acclaim.
This production features Mark Arends as Proteus and Michael Marcus as Valentine. Arends recently appeared in Headlong’s “1984,” and Marcus' credits include playing Henry Tudor in the BBC series “The White Queen.” The character Launce is played by Roger Morlidge, who has just finished appearing in the West End transfer of “The Full Monty.”
The production is designed by Paul Wills with lighting by Bruno Poet. The music is composed by Michael Bruce with sound by Christopher Shutt and movement director is Jonathan Goddard.
Tickets are $15 adults, $13 Lincoln Theater members, and $5 Youth 18 and under.
Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 207-563-3424 during office hours, Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by stopping by at the theater. They will also be available at the door one hour before show time.
The Lincoln Theater is located at 2 Theater Street in Damariscotta.
