Belfast woman dies in Warren crash; Edgecomb couple injured
WARREN — A head-on crash in Warren Monday afternoon killed one woman and sent two others to a local hospital.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred just before 3 p.m., Sept. 29, on Route 1, south of the intersection of Route 90 in Warren.
Witnesses told deputies that the 2008 Jeep operated by Blanche Foss, 72, of Belfast was heading north, “and for an unknown reason crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into a 2005 Chevy truck that was pulling a camper-trailer.
The truck, operated by John Orne, 51, of Edgecomb, was heading south. Orne's wife Cathy, 56, was a passenger.
Blanche Foss was transported to the parking lot of the nearby Odd Fellows Hall to wait for a LifeFlight helicopter. Shortly after LifeFlight arrived, it was determined that she died due to injuries sustained in the crash.
The Ornes were transported to Miles Memorial Hospital, in Damariscotta, with non-life-threatening injuries.
Warren Fire and Rescue responded, along with Thomaston and Waldoboro ambulances.
A portion of Route 1 was closed for approximately two hours.
