Jail search turns up contraband
A routine search at Two Bridges Regional Jail turned up some prison contraband.
Lincoln County Sheriff's Office reported that on Tuesday, Sept. 23, a search turned up the contraband and lead to the arrest of Peter Curtis, 26, of Wiscasset.
Curtis, who was an inmate at Two Bridges at the time of his arrest, was charged with felony trafficking in prison contraband and misdemeanor violating the conditions of his release.
Lincoln County Sheriff Detective Terry Michaud wrote in an official report that on the afternoon of Sept. 23 prison staff conducted a search.
Corrections officer Eric Major reportedly instructed Curtis, at which point Curtis allegedly refused. Michaud wrote that when Curtis turned around a hypodermic needle reportedly fell from his person. Michaud wrote that after the needle hit the floor, Curtis was reportedly uncooperative.
For the alleged possession of the needle, Curtis was charged with a Class C crime, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. The violation of release charge, which is a Class E misdemeanor, because one of Curtis' bail conditions was to not possess or use illegal drugs.
Curtis was originally booked Aug. 29 for burglary, theft by unauthorized taking, trafficking in illegal drugs and possession of a firearm or crossbow by an unauthorized person.
Curtis was being held on a $1,000 secured cash bond, and has been ordered not to use or possess any drugs or alcohol, and will be subject to searches. He was released from Two Bridges on Thursday, Sept. 25.
Curtis has a court date set for Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at the Lincoln County Superior Court.
