Artist Dyan Berk exhibits at Miles Memorial Hospital
Artist Dyan Berk's art exhibit entitled, “Morphology: Works on Paper,” opens at the Hall Gallery at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta on Saturday, Oct. 18. The show will run through Nov. 28.
The work in this show reflects the artist's ongoing investigation of the language of form and how it relates to our inner self; the world of feeling and pure expression.
Spontaneity, imagination and playfulness are highly valued elements in this artistic process. The title, “morphology,” refers to the myriad forms of living organisms and the relationships of things both organic and inorganic.
The work reveals a dynamic interconnection that suggests the possibility of a physical and spiritual transformation.
Berk grew up in Chicago, Illinois and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. She moved to Maine in 1982 and lived on Monhegan Island until July of 2014. She now resides in Lincolnville. Her work has been shown in numerous galleries in Maine and New England.
In 2009, she was chosen for a “Percent for Art” project at the Mount View Elementary School in Thorndike. Berk’s work has been included in the 2004 and 2008 Center for Maine Contemporary Art Biennial Juried Exhibitions.
Paintings may be purchased directly from the artist during the exhibition. A portion of the proceeds from sales of art will be retained by the Miles Art Committee, one of the branches of the Miles Memorial Hospital League, to ensure that new original art is routinely purchased for rooms at the hospital.
