Close call for Edgecomb fire chief
Edgecomb Fire Chief Roy Potter was working at the scene of a two-vehicle crash at routes 1 and 27 on Tuesday night, when he heard tires screech. He looked to see a car that had stopped two feet from him, Potter said in a telephone interview later.
Potter said the driver pulled over at his request, but then allegedly drove off.
The car could not be located, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Major Ken Mason said October 22. The incident serves as a reminder for motorists to use caution when approaching an accident scene, he said. Conditions such as the poor visibility with Tuesday night’s rain only add to the need to approach slowly, Mason said.
Wiscasset Ambulance Service took both drivers of the two vehicles in the accident to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, said Potter, who also serves on Edgecomb’s First Responders.
The approximately 6 p.m., Oct. 21, accident resulted in a brief shutdown of Route 1.
