‘Seasonal Being’
Spring —
Vernal Equinox
notes of the redwing blackbird
weave like threads through their nest
drift like feathers on a spring-freshet stream
drop like rain into a vernal pond
sprinkle through open windows like stardust.
Summer Solstice —
Earth’s axis
tilts towards the sun
she floats through days
faint imprint in space time
plucks a few flowers
harvests a few vegetables
hangs a few pieces of wash
pens a few words
Autumn Equinox —
shadows lengthen
leaves scream neon
cool breeze ripples water on the lake
she sweeps summer laughter
off the porch
rests in a wicker chair
catches wisps of the departing season
vacantly watches maple leaves
float down
as she wonders ...
Winter Solstice —
Earth’s axis tilts
away from the sun
a blank white slate
horizon line
on which to write
spring summer autumn poems
