Two-car Wiscasset accident sends three to hospital
A two-car motor vehicle accident sent three people to Midcoast Hospital and snarled traffic on Route 1 in Wiscasset on Dec. 31.
Crews from the Wiscasset Fire Department, Wiscasset Police Department, Wiscasset Ambulance, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Bath Ambulance responded to Bath Road near Wiscasset Ford around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, after a silver Chevy Cruze and red Volvo sedan collided.
It was not immediately clear what caused the accident, Wiscasset Assistant Fire Chief Nick Merry said at the scene.
The driver of the Volvo, who was later identified as Ann Marie Stewart, and a passenger in the Chevrolet were carted to Midcoast Hospital immediately, while the driver of the Chevrolet was eventually transported by a Bath ambulance.
According to the weekly police report from the Wiscasset Police Department, Brunswick Police reportedly collected blood samples drawn from Roberts after the crash and while she was at Midcoast Hospital.
The other driver, Duane Brunell, of Boothbay, who is the Maine Department of Transportation’s Safety Director, and passenger Patricia Brunell were released shortly after the crash.
“There were three injuries; one priority one, she was in the red car,” Merry said at the scene. “There were two injuries (from the occupants of the Chevrolet). One had a chest injury, but doesn't appear to be too major at this time.”
Officers from the Wiscasset Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to determine the cause of the crash.
By 4:20 p.m. the scene was cleared.
