What's coming up at Adult Ed
Spring is almost here, and it's a great time to take a class at Boothbay Region Adult Ed. The third week of March features classes to learn about Google applications, become more adept at using your iPad or iPhone, what you need to know about Alzheimer’s, and more. Chip Griffin will be presenting a local history talk about Lifesaving Lines and Legends on March 24.
In Using Your iPad or iPhone, explore the potential of your iPad, or iPhone and take control of your Apple device! Learn the basics of Apple’s iOS operating system especially your iPad. Learn fundamentals of navigating your device, basic commands, multitouch gestures, customization, and settings. Master the built-in applications including Safari, Mail, Messages, Photos, Camera, Calendar, FaceTime and more. Discover how to find, download, and organize new ones. We will demystify your mobile device. Bring your iPad, or iPhone, to follow along with hands-on demonstrations The class meets on Monday evenings, March 23-April 13, 6-8 p.m., and the fee is $40.
More than just a search engine, Google offers dozens of free useful apps to simplify and enhance your life, or create just plain fun. In Google Applications on March 23 and 25 learn how to use these products on any device that can access the Internet. Some of the apps we will explore the calendar, schedules. and sharing events. How to translate text, Web pages, view maps and directions. Learn about documents and Gmail. If you don’t have a Google account or Gmail please sign up before the first class. The time is 6 to 8 p.m., and the fee is $28.
The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s is for anyone who would like to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. This program is designed to provide people with the basic information everyone needs to know about memory loss issues and what they mean for all of us. Learn about: symptoms and effects of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia; causes, and risk factors. Bill Kirkpatrick, Maine Alzheimer's Association, will also discuss the benefits of early detection, stages of the disease; treatment; hope for the future, and how the Alzheimer’s Association can help. This one evening workshop is on Tuesday, March 24, 6-7:30 p.m., and the cost is $10.
Explore building more complex spreadsheets and using advanced formulas; connect multiple pages in Advanced MS Excel. Sort, hide, and analyze data. Apply these practices to specific situations and problems; work with formulas, arithmetic functions; calculate dates and times. Learn about pivot tables, shortcuts; and how to audit spreadsheets for errors. An essential class if you use Excel in the workplace or are looking for a job. Prerequisite: Basic Excel or experience using Excel This three session class meets on March 24, 26 and 31, 6-8 p.m., and the fee is $36.
