Gardening, computer tips and more at adult ed
Are you interested in organic gardening? Want to learn to take great photos with your digital camera? Or learn valuable tips and information about using your Windows computer? You can when you take a class at Boothbay Region Adult Ed during the next two weeks.
In “Grow Your Own Organic Garden” on April 8 you'll learn to grow your own vegetables in a sustainable manner, the basics of soil science, enriching your soil for healthy, high-yielding plants. Other topics that will be discussed are the basics of compost, principles of crop rotation, and incorporating green manures, manage nutrients in the garden, weed control strategies,insect pests and methods of natural insect control. All are welcome, first-timers to experienced gardeners. This workshop is presented by the Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association. Please register by April 6. The time is 6-9 p.m., and the cost is a $5 registration fee paid in advance to Adult Ed, and $5 paid to the instructor on class night.
Most people know the basics about using a PC with a Windows operating system. “Windows Tips and Tricks” will provide more information and teach you additional skills about the many functions available in all Windows programs. Learn about multi-tasking and how you can change and optimize your computer settings, arrange your desktop, and manage programs and files. Bring your laptop if you wish or use one of the computers in the lab. Time will be allowed for questions. The class is on April 13 and 15, 6-8 p.m., and the fee is $28.
If you are comfortable with using the settings and functions on your digital camera, or have taken Leisha’s basic class, and want to learn more about improving the quality of your photos “Taking Great Digital Photos” is for you. We will explore the implications of contrast, lighting, and shapes through discussion. Then experiment using what you've learned to take photos indoors, outdoors, or tell a photo story. Learn to see differently — work more creatively. Leisha will provide you with feedback and technical tips. Bring your digital camera with fresh batteries to class. This two session class is on April 14 and 16, 6-8 p.m., and the fee is $28.
