Heartwood's summer theater camp 2015
Registration is now open for Heartwood’s 13th session of summer camp, with three sessions scheduled June 29 through July 8, for students entering grades 1-12.
Back by popular demand this year is Sprouts Camp, for students entering grades 1 and 2. This four-day, mornings-only session is the perfect introduction for young students and will be taught by Heartwood staff and visiting actors/artists.
Kids Camp is an eight-day experience for students entering grades 3-8, under the direction of Alison Machaiek, drama teacher and award winning director from Oceanside High School in Rockland.
For students entering grades 7-12 (grades 5 or 6 with instructor permission), Griff Braley, Lincoln Academy drama teacher and Heartwood’s artistic director, directs the eight-day Intensives Camp.
Working alongside Braley and Machaiek are returning instructors Mark Bedell and Karen Montanaro. Bedell is a certified fight master and professional stuntman/fight choreographer, teaching hand to hand combat and sword-play. Montanaro is a mime/dance artist and teacher leading workshops in mime, movement, dance and graphics.
Several visiting actors cast in Heartwood’s summer production, “Cyrano de Bergerac,” will join with camp instructors, lending their expertise in multiple areas.
The focus of Heartwood’s summer training is skill building, preparing students to perform in productions throughout the school year and increasing confidence, both on-stage and off.
A “show and tell performance” will be open to the public on the evening of Wednesday, July 8.
