Gleason Fine Art artists in show at prestigious museum
Marty and Dennis Gleason are proud to announce that works by local artists Andrea Peters and Kevin Beers have entered the permanent collection of the New Britain (Connecticut) Museum of Art as part of the Charles and Irene Hamm Collection of American Coastal Art. The show is titled “Over Life’s Waters: The Coastal Art Collection of Charles and Irene Hamm” and is currently on display.
Before going to the New Britain Museum, the paintings hung in the Upper East Side apartment of the Hamms, who also reside in Connecticut. Other artists placed in the Hamm collection by the Gleasons include works by Fairfield Porter, Andrew Winter, Joseph DeMartini, and a number of works by James Fitzgerald.
The Gleasons also oversaw the production of the book, “American Coastal Art: The Collection of Charles and Irene Hamm,” engaging Genetta and Melville McLean to write the text and do the photography, respectively. The book was published by Custom Museum Publications of Rockland, ME. Dennis also wrote a Foreword for the book.
The Hamms assembled their collection of 100+ works over the past two decades with paintings spanning the early 19th century to today: from Thomas Birch, William Bradford and Fitz Henry Lane to Donald Demers, Christopher Blossom, Joseph McGurl, and now Beers and Peters.
