Regional School Unit 12 budget appears to pass
In unofficial results from Regional School Unit 12 Superintendent Howie Tuttle early Wednesday, the district’s budget appeared to pass with 62 percent approval.
Although the margin of support varied by town and Somerville rejected the budget offer, approval depends on the vote count district-wide. The unofficial numbers Tuttle provided in an email June 10 came out to a seven-town total of 415 yes votes and 256 no votes.
“The strong support for the RSU 12 budget was very exciting,” Tuttle wrote in a separate email later Wednesday morning. “The strong support for education from the RSU 12 community continues to benefit our students and the future of the region."
In results from the polls in Alna and Westport Island Tuesday night, both towns supported the proposed budget.
In Alna, 35 residents voted yes, 2 no, according to Town Clerk Amy Warner; and Westport Island Town Clerk Gaye Wagner said in that town, the budget received 52 yes votes and 10 no votes.
In the numbers Tuttle had, the budget received Palermo’s support, 31-13; Chelsea’s, 80-76; Whitefield’s, 62-40; and Windsor’s, 142-86. The proposal lost in Somerville, 13-29.
