New Christian school opens in the fall
Peninsula educators and parents alike will open the doors of Rocky Coast Christian Academy this fall.
Chuck House, a former high school English teacher, and his wife Barbara House, a music teacher and librarian, have planned to open a Christian school for several years. Organizers also include teacher Bridgett Schlosser and her husband Jason Schlosser, guidance counselor and parent Meredith Roberts Fowlie, parent Karen Lawless, Mike and Caroline Roberts, Cindy Lewis, Mark Kamen and Terri Bates.
The Academy’s mission statement is “Truth and Life ... Abundantly.”
“Rocky Coast Christian Academy strives to provide students with an excellent education in a vibrant, Christian environment,” according to their brochure. “Seeking to foster a concern and respect for others, and develop values and character, based on a biblical worldview. By encouraging a hope-filled future in each individual, the academy will seek to equip students to become leaders who will positively impact their world with their God-given gifts and talents.”
The academy will offer grades kindergarten through six, with a low student-to-teacher ratio.
“Our teachers will be dedicated, born-again Christians who desire to invest in young people with their gifting and skill,” according to the brochure. “Founded on a Christian worldview, our curriculum will follow a Classical approach with a supplemental Charlotte Mason philosophy including Bible classes and chapel services.”
Parent Meredith Roberts said the Bible is not available or allowed in public schools and feels the academy will teach morals and values utilizing the principles of the Bible.
“We’re not just talking about textbooks and memorization, we want to provide hands-on learning for our students, to give them real world skills to serve in their communities and maybe the world,” Jason Schlosser said.
Though the administration for the new academy does not have a building yet; the school will open Tuesday, Sept. 4. Currently the school has two teachers committed to the fall semester and is seeking two additional teachers.
