Because the totals of the Les Fossel-Chris Johnson race were so close, a recount could be coming in the near future.

Only 126 votes separated the two candidates for the District 20 Senate seat. Johnson, D-Somerville won the election with 10,824 votes against 10,698 votes for Fossel, R-Alna.

The state does not charge to have votes recounted in races where the winner and loser were separated by less than 2 percent of the total vote.

In the Fossel/Johnson race the total was even more narrow than that. Less than 1 percentage point divided the two.

Although no official recount has been filed yet, Fossel will have until Tuesday, Nov. 13 to file a recount.
