‘An Evening With John Adams’
The Georgetown Historical Society will present, “An Evening With John Adams,” portrayed by renowned reenactor George Baker, on Saturday, July 25 at 7 p.m. This educational and amusing portrayal of our second president will inspire and entertain adults and students alike.
Adams will talk about his views of history and society. As an attorney, he will describe representing the British soldiers in the Boston Massacre trial where the concept of "beyond a reasonable doubt" was applied.
He will also talk about when, as a lawyer, he made a trip on horseback to the courthouse in Pownalborough (now Dresden) Maine in 1765 to argue a case. He will refresh your Maine history with his observations on Maine joining the union as a free state in 1820 as a result of the Missouri Compromise
