Weekly tours of artist studios at Watershed Center
Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts welcomes visitors this summer for tours on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. in July and August. During a walk through Watershed’s pastoral campus and 16,000 square foot studio, guests will learn about Watershed’s history as a brick-making facility and its evolution into an internationally recognized art center.
Visitors can explore the original “beehive” kiln that was used to fire bricks, learn about clay and glaze mixing, and meet the artists-in-residence working in the studios.
During the summer months, artists from across the country and world come to Watershed to engage in a wide range of projects — from functional tableware to sculptural pieces. The tour also includes a walk through the new kiln building — home to a variety of wood, gas, and electric kilns.
Visitors will have an opportunity to visit Thompson Hall and view Watershed’s collection of ceramic art, where a selection of work is available for purchase.
Reservations are not required and tours are free of charge. Tours begin at Thompson Hall, located in the circle driveway at the top of the Watershed campus. Watershed Center is located off Route 1 on Cochran Road (turn north at Skip Cahill Tire & Citgo) opposite the Route 27 South turnoff to Boothbay Harbor.
