Democrats thank volunteers
Lincoln County Democratic Party candidates in this year's elections hosted a thank-you reception for their many volunteers Sunday, Nov. 11 at the party's headquarters on Main Street in Damariscotta. Dozens of volunteers dropped by during the course of the afternoon to congratulate the winners, and offer words of thanks for the efforts of all the candidates.
Senator Chris Johnson praised the strong volunteer efforts this year. “Without the help and hard work of all of you, I would not be where I am today …. Mine was a close race, making it clear just how important your canvassing, your phone calls, your talking to friends, and your letters have been.”
Tim Marks, the winner in House District 53 (Alna, Dresden, Pittston and Wiscasset), told the group that “without you this celebration would not be possible.” He spoke about how, as a political newcomer, he was surprised and delighted by the support he got from the Lincoln County volunteers, especially the phone calls.
Lisa Miller, who lost her attempt to return the House District 52 seat, said “some of my phone work was done by another county committee, but I know that volunteers in Lincoln County were pulling for me in so many ways.”
Mick Devin, winner in House District 51 (Bristol, Damariscotta, Edgecomb, Monhegan, Newcastle and South Bristol), said, “I was involved in a political race that involved limited outside money and no negative campaigning by either my opponent or myself. It is an honor to have had volunteers from all three political parties and independents work to get me elected.”
Bruce MacDonald, who won his fourth term as the House District 61 representative (Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Georgetown, Southport and Westport Island), praised the party's volunteer workers. “The volunteers make it all happen, with phone calls, driving, mailings, knocking on doors, putting up signs. They do it without publicity and not enough thanks.”
Mary Trescot, winner in the race for the Lincoln County Commission District 3 seat, pointed to many forms of support she received. “I want to thank the volunteers and staff for keeping me on track during my first campaign.
“I would stop at the headquarters and you all graciously gave me hints on what I should be doing, gave me positive pats on the back and sent me out to my next task. Several of you grabbed me and told me exactly what I needed to do next, such as, 'Are your signs finished? Bring them to the office.'”
Joel Pitcher, unsuccessful Democratic candidate in the race for the House District 50 seat (Bremen, part of Jefferson, Nobleboro, and Waldoboro), was unable to attend the event, but sent thanks to all for the support he received.
