Edgecomb students receive citizenship award
On June 12, two special graduates of Edgecomb Eddy School’s sixth grade class were awarded the Sara Leone Outstanding Citizenship Award.
ReAnna Heino and Aaron Densmore were given this honor because each child is an excellent role model for others, a caring and compassionate citizen, and an outstanding leader.
ReAnna is the daughter of Dan Heino of Edgecomb and Annette Flowers of Maryland and will be attending Boothbay Region Elementary School next year.
Aaron is the son of Toby and Stacy Densmore of Edgecomb and will be attending North Yarmouth Academy next year.
The Sara Leone Outstanding Citizenship Award is given annually to honor Sara’s memory.
She attended Edgecomb Eddy School until she graduated in 2002. Sara stood out as a child with enthusiasm for learning, a love of the outdoors and a zest for life – a wonderful blend of passion and compassion.
Carol Leone, the late Sara’s mom, made the award presentations. Both students expressed their pride in being chosen as the recipients of this award. ReAnna and Aaron’s names have been added to the commemorative plaque that hangs at the Edgecomb Eddy School, along with past recipients of Sara’s Award.
Before she was tragically killed in a car accident, Sara was an active member of the Wiscasset High School Outing Club. Her parents founded the Teens To Trails organization to help develop Outing Clubs throughout Maine and give all Maine teens access to the outdoors. There is also a scholarship that bears Sara’s name that sends Wiscasset High School students to Camp Chewonki for a three-week outdoor wilderness experience.
