Edgecomb students recognized for making a difference
Four Edgecomb Eddy School students have been caught in the act ... of doing a good deed this year. And the school’s staff is recognizing those good deeds by presenting these students with MADE (Making A Difference in Edgecomb) Awards.
So far, students Hayden Rines, second grade; Emilie Crocker, sixth grade; Vanessa Schooley, fifth grade; and Edison Edgecomb, fourth grade, have all been “caught in the act.” The students are presented with a certificate of appreciation during lunch time.
“We look for opportunities for students going above and beyond in their actions. We want to acknowledge their actions and do so with a brief presentation during lunch so their peers can be a part of it, too,” Principal Lisa Clarke said.
The most recent recipient is Vanessa Schooley. She was recognized for showing kindness in the breakfast line to a kindergarten student. Vanessa ordered the last cereal in the breakfast line. A kindergarten student also wanted that particular breakfast so Vanessa offered hers to him.
“Nobody expected her to do that. It was a true act of kindness. And an act that we thought she should be recognized for,” Clarke said.
The MADE Award is earned after a staff member nominates a student and it is approved by Clarke.
