DRA offers homesteading holiday gift-making classes
The Damariscotta River Association (DRA) pleased to announce that Sunday, December 6 will be a day of homestead holiday gift making. The three workshops offered will be wax gifts, felt accessories and herbal teas and tinctures. Pre-payment and registration are required for each of the workshops.
The instructor, Kim Scheimreif, is the proprietor of Shepherds and Such Homesteading Farm and her products are sold at the Boothbay, Damariscotta and Bath farmers markets, local stores in the Midcoast area and on her Etsy shop, Mainelywaxandwool. Scheimreif says, “Nature is art and my favorite mediums from nature are wool, beeswax, wood, milkweed and flowers.”
The wax workshop will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and participants will create a wax bowl, wax flower, salve, a candle, and learn the properties and other uses of beeswax. The fee is $60 per participant for this workshop.
The felting workshop will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. and participants can make a felted accessory such as a cell phone case, small bag or eyeglass case. Participants will have the choice to make either clay or wooden buttons to adorn their accessory. The fee for this workshop is $50 per participant.
The herbal class offers opportunities to blend your own medicinal teas and make a tincture to take home. The group will also discuss foraging and the properties of a variety of plants, how to make smudge sticks and other uses of plants and herbs. This workshop is scheduled from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and the fee is $30 per person.
