“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Set approximately 30 years after the events of “Return of the Jedi,” the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire have become the Resistance and the First Order, respectively. follows new leads Finn (, Rey, and Poe Dameron alongside characters returning from previous Star Wars films including Hans Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hammill).
This seventh film in the “Star Wars” franchise is the first of planned trilogy of movies. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” is rated PG and plays Wednesday, Jan. 6 through Saturday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 10 at 2 and 7 p.m.
“Carmen,” an opera in four acts from Euro Mediterranean Festival/Teatro Antico di Taormina, tells the story of a love-struck soldier and celebrity toreador who spar for the love of the alluring gypsy Carmen in this beloved classic. Bizet’s masterpiece – an opera whose striking defiance of bourgeoisie morality resulted in scandal at its Paris premiere in 1874. This production was filmed at the magnificent Ancient Greek Theatre of Taormina on July 15, 2015. The opera will screen on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18/seniors and youth, $16/members.
“Joy” is a semi-biographical comedy/drama written and directed by David O. Russell. A self-made millionaire (Jennifer Lawrence) creates her own business empire. Story loosely based on American inventor, businesswoman, and entrepreneur Joy Mangano. Also stars Robert De Niro, Edgar Ramirez, Diane Ladd, Virginia Madsen, Isabella Rossellini and Bradley Cooper. “Joy,” is rated PG13 and plays Thursday, Jan. 14 through Saturday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 17 at 2 and 7 p.m.

“Creed” Adonis Johnson never knew his famous father, world heavy weight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there's no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed's legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa. Sylvester Stallone returns in a Golden Globe nominated best actor performance. “The Winter's Tale” presented by the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company, with Dame Judi Dench. Shakespeare's tragi-comedy set both in a Sicilian court and a glorious bohemian countryside follows the anguish of King Leontes of Sicilia (Kenneth Branagh), who accuses the King of Bohemia, Polixenes, of having an affair with his pregnant wife. Plotting to murder Polixenes, Leontes orders his wife be thrown in prison and for the baby to be banished. Act Two is filled with mirth and merriment as the son of Polixenes (who managed to escape,) falls in love with a lowly shepherd girl. Also starring Dame Judi Dench as Paulina. Plays Saturday, Jan. 9 and 23 at 1 p.m.
Bizet's “Les Pêcheurs de Perles” The Met Live in HD: For the first time since Enrico Caruso starred in the opera in 1916, the Met will present Bizet’s lush, melodic romance -“The Pearl Fishers” -, in a production by director Penny Woolcock. Gianandrea Noseda conducts a cast led by Diana Damrau as the beautiful priestess Leïla. Matthew Polenzani and Mariusz Kwiecien sing the roles of Nadir and Zurga, the two pearl fishers whose friendship is tested by their rivalry for Leïla’s affections. Playing Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. following a pre-opera talk with Dr. Morton Achter, at 11:45 a.m.
