Audrey Bechler exhibition at Savory Maine
Waldoboro artist Audrey Bechler is leaving Maine, her heart’s special place for over 50 years. Before she does, she will show and sell as much of her accumulated works of art as she can.
The public is invited to a reception for Audrey on Friday, Feb. 19 from 3-5 p.m. at Savory Maine, with refreshments and finger foods.
Thirty-seven of Bechler's acrylic paintings will be exhibited at Savory Maine Feb. 11 through March 21. While this isn’t meant to be a formal retrospective, this collection of Bechler’s work shows her immersion in and joy from her natural surroundings in both her realistic and abstract creations.
Twenty-two years after visiting and falling in love with the coast of Maine, Audrey and Charlie moved from Newburyport, MA to Back Cove in Waldoboro. Thirty-two years later, Bechler is following the wisdom of her sons and is moving to Eugene, Oregon where she will leave the snow and ice and cold behind - no more shoveling, carrying wood, and keeping the fire burning in the wood stove, which she’s always enjoyed.
“My inspiration comes from visual experience, seeing and feeling. The whole act of creation, from a blank surface to a finished product, brings me great pleasure,” said Bechler. “My energy is in these paintings. I have been happily painting many years, which have gone by very fast. Endings point to beginnings ... the journey is beautiful.”
