WHS drama students rehearsing for one acts competition
Wiscasset High School’s (WHS) Drama students are in the midst of rehearsing for the Regional One Act Festival. This year’s performance is “Two Sisters” by Caroline Harding.
The play is set in a small village in Russia in 1880. Anya (sophomore Leah Potter) comes home from a night out with her sister Sonia (senior Samantha Arsenault) to find a coffin in the middle of her apartment. Fearing that this is some kind of sign from an unknown higher power, Anya decides that before she dies, she needs to get her deepest, darkest secret off her chest. Meanwhile her sister Sonia has also found a coffin in her house. Although not quite as frightened as her sister, she reluctantly reveals her own dark secret and fears as well.
This year’s competition piece is directed by drama teacher Jean Phillips, with freshmen Nick Clark running lights and Megan DeLong on the sound board.
Sophomore Kobe Carrier will ably fill the role of stage manager. Ms. Phillips’ Technical Theatre Design group has been hard at work building the set, including a very convincing “toe-pincher” coffin.
Serving as back stage techs are freshman Arianna Couillard, sophomores Sarah Foley, Ayanna Main, and Ryan Medina. Junior Skyler Stickney is head of makeup and costumes.
A preview performance is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the WHS gym.
Lend your support to these talented students and attend this thought-provoking play.
