Planning board approves permit for climate-controlled storage facility
The Edgecomb Planning Board voted 5-0 to approve a building permit for a 62-foot-by-100-foot, climate-controlled storage facility on Route 1. Ben Ellinwood will build the storage unit near his Ellinwood Foundations business.
Construction will begin immediately, according to Ellinwood. He expects to open Rock Solid Storage by mid-summer. The 6,000 square -foot building will be no colder than 50 F and no warmer than 70 F, according to Ellinwood. The facility will have 40 units of various dimensions.
“You can put almost anything in there except a car. There wouldn’t be room,” he told the planning board.
But motorcycles are welcome. Ellinwood will allow motor bikes if the customer provides proper floor protection preventing spillage into other spaces.
There were no questions during the public hearing. And the planning board didn’t have any prior to the vote.
In other action, the planning board scheduled a public hearing for proposed revisions to the town’s land use ordinance. The hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 in the municipal building. The Ordinance Review Committee began revising all five articles of the town’s land use ordinance over a year ago. The committee worked to eliminate inconsistencies between local and state regulations. The committee also wanted to make the document “more user-friendly,” according to recording secretary Jackie Lowell.
“It easier to use. You can now find out where you live easier and find out what you can do within a district without referring to page 154,” Lowell said.
The planning board will meet next at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 in the municipal building.
