Wiscasset handles fuel leak at town office
Wiscasset fire and public works personnel responded Monday morning to a fuel leak inside the municipal building’s furnace room. The leak from a day tank that feeds the furnaces was found shortly before 9 a.m. and was limited to three to four gallons, personnel said.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was on the way, Fire Chief T.J. Merry said. Nothing leaked outdoors, Steve Christiansen of public works said as several square, white pads continued absorbing the fuel that had leaked onto the furnace room floor.
The leak was confined to the furnace room, Merry said in a phone interview.
A service technician would be examining the day tank, but so far it appeared a float switch on it may have had a problem, Chris Cossette of the fire department said.
