Preventing foot problems to be discussed
Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist Mark Delmar of the Hanger Clinic will discuss specialized shoes that can take the pressure off ulcers or callouses at the March 23 meeting of the LincolnHealth Diabetes Support Group.
The LincolnHealth Diabetes Support Group meets at 1 p.m., usually on the fourth Wednesday of every other month.
People with diabetes are more likely to suffer neuropathy, or nerve damage, which can increase the risk ulcers, callouses or other foot injuries could result in serious wounds and potentially amputation.
Mark Delmar fits diabetic patients with total contact foot orthoses and shoes that distribute pressure evenly throughout the foot, relieving the pressure on ulcers or callouses.
The LincolnHealth Diabetes Support Group meets in the third floor of the Miles Campus of LincolnHealth to share experiences and send the message that no one should have to deal with diabetes alone.
The LincolnHealth Diabetes and Nutrition Program provides a range of services to diabetes patients and their families. The program has been accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators for the provision of quality services. For additional information, please contact diabetes nurse educators Marilyn Finch or Karen Lane or at 563-4442.
