Nomination papers available for town seats
Nomination papers for Wiscasset’s board of selectmen, school committee, water district and budget committee are now available. Balloting will take place at the June 14 primary election.
Town Clerk Linda Perry said three of the five seats on the board of selectmen will be on the ballot. These include the seats currently held by Chairman Ben Rines Jr., Jeff Slack and Judith Colby. All three seats are for two-year terms.
On Monday morning Slack notified the newspaper by email he wouldn’t be seeking another term on the board.
Last November, Colby was elected to the board to serve the unexpired term of Bill Barnes who had resigned.
There are also two openings on the school committee and Wiscasset Water District. Both are three-year terms. Perry said Michael Dunn’s and Chairman Steve Smith’s terms are expiring. On the water district Ed Kavanagh and Dean Shea’s terms expire.
Eight of the nine seats on the budget committee are open. There are three, three-year terms, three, two-year terms and two, one-year terms.
Perry said nomination papers are available at the town office during regular business hours. They must contain at least 25 but no more than 100 signatures of Wiscasset residents. The deadline to return nomination papers to the town clerk for all seats is 4 p.m., May 2.
New residents can register to vote at the town office during business hours or at the polls on the day of the election.
The Wiscasset town office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays.
