Adult and pediatric CPR-AED course
An Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid course is scheduled for April 13 and 14 at Boothbay Region Adult Education. The course is taught by a certified instructor. Participants will learn how to perform CPR(chest compressions and rescue breaths), recognize signs of breathing emergencies and choking and how to care for them. They will also learn about defibrillation, how it works and the precautions to take when using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for all age groups — adult, children and infants. The first aid component includes identifying signals of common sudden illnesses and how to care for them. You'll also learn to identify and care for: seizures, heat and cold related injuries, musculoskeletal or soft tissue injuries, control external bleeding and care for head, neck and spinal injuries.
The Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSL) replaces Red Cross classes. A 2-year certificate awarded upon successful completion. The course is from 6 to 9 p.m. at Boothbay Region High School and the fee is $70.
