Indie film 'Durant's Never Closes' at The Harbor Theatre
Phoenix, Arizona - After weeks of buzz playing in theaters around the U.S., the film about Phoenix’s most iconic restaurant, Durant’s Never Closes, is set to screen April 16 at The Harbor Theatre in Boothbay Harbor.
We are proud to bring our film to Maine even more so since our cinematographer, Nick Fornwalt, was born and raised in South Portland. Nick has worked internationally on commercials, music videos, documentaries, reality television, and major motion pictures such as Universal Pictures’ “Fast & Furious 7.” He has worked with Running Wild Films as a cinematographer on four of our feature films.
Starring Hollywood actors Tom Sizemore and Peter Bogdanovich, “Durant's Never Closes” tells the story of legendary Jack Durant, a restaurateur, ladies’ man, and mysterious gentleman who maintained many connections to the mafia.
This film, based on the play by Terry Earp and the book by Mabel Leo, tells his story during one day at his restaurant. From the backwoods of Tennessee, to the world of Vegas at the time of Bugsy, and finally as the owner of his famous steakhouse, Durant is a legend and dynamic character, at once charming, powerful, and dangerous.
In the film, Sizemore delivers a return to form performance as Durant, which echoes his career highlights, including “Saving Private Ryan” and “Heat.” Renowned director and producer Peter Bogdanovich (“Last Picture Show,” “Paper Moon”) plays a supporting role in the film. In addition, Michelle Stafford (“The Young and the Restless,” “General Hospital”) gives a heartbreaking performance as Jack’s ex-wife.
“Durant’s Never Closes” was filmed entirely in Arizona by local independent filmmakers. The actual restaurant was only used for exterior shots, whereas all interiors were filmed on a sound stage in Glendale, Arizona where Durant’s bar, booths, and decor was re-created.
Director and producer Travis Mills began Running Wild Films in 2010 with the vision to build a sustainable film movement in Phoenix, Arizona. He and his team are currently in pre-production on a new narrative film about the Don Bolles murder and conspiracy titled “Valley of Shadows” and they also just wrapped production on a feature film in Mississippi titled “Porches and Private Eyes.”
Durant's Never Closes" (not rated) plays at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 16 with Q & A hosted by the film's director Travis Mills after the screening.
