Midday crash at Nequasset and Route One sends two to hospital
Traffic snarled for half an hour
A midday crash at Nequasset and Route One in Woolwich sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries on Thursday, Aug. 4.
A vehicle traveling southbound on Route One, driven by Bethany Gillam of Woolwich, turned into the path of a vehicle traveling northbound, driven by Virginia Colburn of Boston, at the intersection, Deputy Mark MacDonald of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office said. The car that was turning left into Nequasset Road was struck on the back, and skidded into a car waiting at the intersection, while the northbound car crossed two lanes of traffic and came to a rest on the west side of Route One. There was no oncoming traffic at the time.
A 5-year-old girl in the southbound vehicle and an elderly woman in the car waiting to turn were transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, MacDonald said. He said that the car waiting to turn was driven by Clinton Davis of Woolwich.
The drivers and other passengers in the vehicles were assessed for injuries at the scene. Traffic coming through the Nequasset intersection was slowed for about half an hour while all three vehicles were towed.
In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, Woolwich Fire and Rescue and North East Ambulance responded to the accident.
