Edward “Ted” Gibbon
Edward (Ted) Gibbon, 96, of Ocean Point, Maine and Ocean Township, New Jersey, formerly of Florham Park and Randolph, New Jersey, died at home on Aug. 11, 2016. Born in Rutherglen, Scotland, he had fond memories of his time spent on the Isle of Arran.
He was proud of earning the rank of Eagle Scout and was also an active member of the YMCA Y’s Men’s Club and the St. Andrews Society. He served four years as a Navy Lieutenant during World War II on the USS Thatcher in the Pacific. He earned an MA & MS in business from Columbia University where he was a member of the highly successful crew team.
He spent 23 years working as a financial analyst for Exxon/Mobil in New York City, and enjoyed 32 years of retirement. He was a prolific lathe woodworker, an avid sailor on the Maine coast and a student of Roman history.
Ted was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Helen Crawford Gibbon, and his brother John.
He is survived by his three sons, Ted and MaryEllen of Oakhurst, New Jersey, Tom and Cinda of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and Dave Gibbon and Jen MacMillan of Lincroft, New Jersey; and by his grandchildren, Danielle and Kevin Koller, Jessica Gibbon, Freya Gibbon and John Dubow, Oliver, Tristan, Meg and Evan Gibbon; and by his sisters-in-law, Glorianna Gibbon and Doreen Dun and her husband James. He is also survived by his caregiver and good friend, Jackie Pacius.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 at The Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury. Relatives and friends are invited to visit a celebration of his life following the service at the home of Ted and MaryEllen Gibbon at 15 Robby Drive., Oakhurst, NJ.
