Robert C. Albert
Robert C. Albert, 76, of Woolwich, died Aug. 16, 2016 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine after a long illness.
Born on July 1, 1940 in Houlton, Maine, he was the son of Walter C. and Jessie (Johnston) Albert.
After graduating from Wiscasset High School in 1960, he joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany in the 385th Military Police Battalion, and was there when they built the Berlin Wall. He retired from Central Maine Power Company, after working 25 years at the Mason Station in Wiscasset. He started in the outside crew and was head of the lab and Bailey meter repairs when he retired.
He was comforting, appreciative, affectionate, warm hearted, and did not hesitate to give freely of his time and energy. Kit Kat bars were his favorite! He loved to go on motorcycle trips with his wife and friends in the Retread Motorcycle Club (Members had to be 40+ in order to belong). With his support and encouragement, his wife obtained her motorcycle license, and her own motorcycle, so they were able to take their two daughters on rides with them. He was a charter member of the first co-ed Lions Club in the state of Maine, and held many offices in the 25 years he was a member.
He was married on May 2,1964 to Jane Gross, and they recently celebrated 52 years together.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Virginia; a brother, Wayne; and in 1975, his son Robbie, at the age of sixteen months.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter, Rebecca Bartolotta and her husband Sal of Bremen; daughter, Teresa Albert of Wiscasset and her life partner Melissa Wing; sister, Susan Varney and her partner Bob Rines of Wiscasset; brothers, Delmont Albert of New Hampshire and Gary Albert and his wife Nancy of Utah; as well as four granddaughters, Kennalee, Taylor, Skye and Shayna. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Eliana in September. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Wells-Hussey American Legion Post #42, 527 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543.
