Sheriff's report
Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:
On January 15, Deputy Chad Gilbert responded to a report of criminal mischief to a backup mirror, attached to a pole, in the Southport area. The complainant stated the mirror is used so they can see traffic when backing out of their driveway and that someone(s) had shot at it and broke a piece of it off on the side. The complainant stated this occurred during the night hours of January 12 or early January 13.
On January 15, Deputy Chad Gilbert responded to a report of criminal mischief to a motor vehicle in the Boothbay area. The complainant stated that sometime between January 14 at approximately 11 p.m. and January 15 at approximately 11 a.m., someone(s) slashed all four tires to his vehicle and smashed the windshield in two places. Total damage is approximately $900. Further investigation to follow if leads develop.
Recent arrest
On January 17, Christopher Bergeron, 35, of Richmond was arrested on two outstanding warrants from Cumberland County for Failure to Pay Fine (DV Assault) and Failure to Pay Fine (theft), at Two Bridges Regional Jail, Wiscasset, by Deputy Scott Hayden.
Recent accidents
On January 16, an accident occurred on Route 1 in Newcastle involving Jade Robbins, 23, of Damariscotta. Robbins was operating her 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer southbound and due to icy road conditions, she lost control of her vehicle, went off into the right side ditch and then rolled onto the driver’s side and came to rest. Deputy Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.
On January 16, an accident occurred on Jones Woods Road in Newcastle involving James E. Verney, 65, of Newcastle. Verney was operating his 2008 GMC 1500 pickup truck northbound and as he attempted to negotiate a hill, he lost control of his vehicle and struck the rock ditch on the southbound side. Lt. Rand Maker was the investigating officer.
On January 16, an accident occurred on Main Road on Westport Island involving D. Drew Porter, 56, of Westport Island. Porter was operating his 2002 Subaru Legacy southbound when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a right hand curve. As a result, his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree located in the northbound ditch. Lt. Rand Maker was the investigating officer.
On January 16, an accident occurred on Route 1 (Mike’s Place parking lot) in Newcastle involving Damon L. Pierpont, 34, of Union and Arthur E. Waltz, 58, of Newcastle. Waltz’s 2012 Ford F150 was parked. Mr. Pierpont was pulling into the parking place next to Waltz’s vehicle in his 2008 Ford Taurus. Due to the parking lot being ice and snow covered, Pierpont’s vehicle slid into Waltz’s vehicle. Deputy Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.
On January 17, an accident occurred on Route 194 in Alna involving Christopher M. Allen, 40, of Auburn and Marjory Whitehurst, 80, of Alna. Mr. Allen was operating his 2011 GMC southbound. Whitehurst was backing her 2004 Chevrolet out of a private driveway when she failed to notice Allen’s vehicle and backed into it. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.
On January 21, an accident occurred on Gardiner Road in Dresden involving Frank C. Fassett, 49, of Boothbay. Fassett was operating his 2011 Ford F250 pickup truck southbound when he became distracted by his radio and went off the roadway on the left side and struck two trees. Deputy Aaron Beck was the investigating officer.
