‘Rebirth’ exhibit starts June 9
After such a grey and cold May, many of us are ready, past ready, for a rebirth! So, “Rebirth” is the timely theme of the June exhibit on display at the Stable Gallery, 26 Water Street, Damariscotta.
With the opening scheduled for 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 9, Stable Gallery is highlighting new paintings by two long standing members and two new members.
Hati Modr’s paintings draw from visits to Monhegan Island and are always favorites with strong shadows and complementary colors. Priscilla McCandless paints from her heart to create bold, unforgettable images.
New members Lucinda Talbot and Katenia Keller bring two distinctive styles to the gallery. Lucinda uses mixed media collage, acrylic ink and pastel for her creations of natural scenes. Katenia Keller, a student of the Tarot System, paints graphic, captivating images on smooth wood surfaces. The results are a uniquely personal blend of geometry and seascapes.
The June show is a mix of old favorites and new blood at the Stable Gallery. Colorful fish plates offset exquisite white sea urchins, both created by Lee Cummings, new gallery member for 2017.
Hand woven, reversible wool rugs by Bill Bellows complement expertly crafted bowls by Stephen Vowles. These artists have been among Stable Gallery favorites for over five years.
Ruth Hartman has added a new line of jewelry made of tiny beads and created to accentuate the body’s movements with sophistication and elegance.
Finally, Steve Ryder is showing his classic maple tables and flower vases that would complement many interior furnishings.
The Stable Gallery is open daily 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. Works by 35 other Maine artists are on view for sale as well. Monthly on second and third Fridays, the gallery remains open until 7 p.m. for opening receptions with artists and Art Walk celebrations respectively.
